Chiropractic Care

Chiropractors are specifically trained to assess and treat your body’s entire neuromusculoskeletal system. Chiropractors utilize a drug-free, hands-on approach to detect and alleviate problems with your nerves, muscles, bones, and joints. Chiropractic is a healthcare discipline that emphasizes the inherent recuperative power of the body to heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery. The practice of chiropractic focuses on the relationship between structure (primarily the spine) and function (as coordinated by the nervous system) and how that relationship affects the preservation and restoration of health.

Active Release Technique (ART)

Active Release Technique is a soft tissue technique used to treat muscles throughout the body. Manual tension is applied to the tissue combined with active movement until a change in tissue is achieved within the muscle. It can be used to treat a tight muscle or stimulate a weak muscle. For more information on muscles, tendons, and scar tissue, scroll to the articles at the bottom of the page.

Interferential Current Therapy (IFC)

Interferential Current Therapy (IFC) is an effective therapy option used by many physiotherapy clinics to relieve pain and accelerate the self-healing process, getting your body back to a healthy, pain free state. The high frequency signals of an IFC penetrate through the skin into deeper lying muscle tissues. Electrodes are placed on your skin around the injured body part. The Interferential Current device then transmits electrical impulses in minute quantities through your skin. Underlying tissue and nerves are stimulated which begins the healing properties. These impulses are not painful in the least. In fact, patients describe the sensation as a minor prickle on their skin. Frequencies produced by the IFC have been proven to stimulate endorphins, the body’s natural painkillers. This can help to create a self-healing process without the need to for medications. This form of therapy is also extremely useful in reducing pain, inflammation, curing edema, and spasms.

Workplace Injuries + WorkSafeBC

Murray Chiropractic Group accepts all WorkSafeBC claims. According to the B.C. Chiropractic Association, musculoskeletal conditions account for the highest number of worker’s compensation claims. Research shows that chiropractors get people back to work sooner than traditional treatment methods and with less chance of relapse. That’s why it’s no surprise that many British Columbians include a chiropractic doctor as part of their health care team. If you are an injured worker and require chiropractic care, your treatment costs are covered. By law, all health professionals are required to report an injury that occurs on the job to WorkSafeBC so be sure to let your chiropractic doctor know ahead of time if this is the case. Conditions that involve any joint, nerves or muscles are eligible for coverage through WorkSafeBC. Our clinic doctors and helpful staff can help you to answer any questions you may have about treatment and coverage.

LiteCure Class IV Hot Laser

Laser therapy is increasingly popular in the medical world for its supreme ability to speed healing naturally. It does this by stimulating our tissues at a cellular level to increase their energy production allowing them to heal and replicate faster. Laser therapy is extremely safe and painless. It can be utilized on any soft tissue or joint, and has been shown to speed up healing by as much as 30%. The Lightforce pro class IV level laser works by flooding the tissues with light energy, energizing the damaged cells and increasing circulation to the painful area. This produces a cascade of healing responses in your body, reducing inflammation, thereby reducing or even eliminating your pain. Because the Class IV laser reaches deep into the tissues, it is ideal for treating sprains and strains, arthritis, calcified muscles, and fibrotic adhesions, as well as intra-articular tissues inside of the joints. Its far-reaching capabilities also allow the Class IV to achieve results in less time than a cold laser. With treatment times of as little as 5 to 15 minutes, the Class IV laser allows many conditions to vastly improve within a few visits. Oftentimes, patients find immediate, soothing relief that improves with each session.

Spinal Manipulation

Spinal Manipulation through the chiropractic adjustment has been shown to alter the way in which our central nervous system functions. It has been specifically shown to affect muscle reflexes, cognitive processing, reaction time, and the speed at which the brain processes information. These effects lead to decreased stress on the entire nervous system allowing it to function more efficiently.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique uses a stainless steel instrument to break down scar tissue and adhesions in fascia. Breaking these adhesions in the neck, back, and extremities can aid in restoring proper mobility and function of the area after injury. For chronic myofascial injuries, this technique helps to re-stimulate the body to promote healing at the site through inflicting new microtrauma. For more information on muscles, tendons, and scar tissue, scroll to the articles at the bottom of the page.

-

Soft Tissue Manipulation

Soft Tissue Manipulation is a treatment used to break up scar tissue and painful adhesions within and around the injured area. It is a specialized technique that is not like massage or Active Release. It utilizes a high amplitude, low impulse thrust directed at the adhesion to quickly and efficiently make a change and restore normal tissue compliance. This is very similar to a chiropractic adjustment only it is directed at the soft tissue rather than the joint itself.

Post-Operative Recovery Plans

Any surgeon will tell you that surgery itself can cause scar tissue formation due to the nature of the procedure. Ligaments, tendons, and other soft tissue are cut with the scalpel and left to heal after the sutures close the wound. Scar tissue tends to draw in on itself, which in turn pulls on the entire soft tissue matrix of the body. This in turn can cause negative compensation as the body adapts. Our soft tissue techniques will help minimize this scar tissue formation. Also, after surgery the body tends to weaken and muscle start to atrophy within 24 hours of disuse. Therefore it is prudent to start exercises as soon as you are ready. Our exercise specialist will assess and prescribe a proper program to get you on the road back to health!

Sports Medicine

The human body is an amazing machine designed to complete complex movements in a simple and defined way. Dysfunctional movement patterns decrease performance by forcing particular muscles and joints to work harder than they are designed for leading to decreased strength, quicker fatigue, and increased injury. Chiropractic treatment and spinal manipulation work to remove negative compensations, restore proper movement patterns, and have also been shown to increase the voluntary strength of your muscle contraction, increase muscle activation, and improve stability allowing you to train compete harder.

Intermittent Traction

Intermittent Traction, otherwise known as Spinal Decompression Therapy, is still the gold standard for treatment of herniated and bulging discs. People suffering from sciatica and other back conditions have reported great results from traction therapy. By gently stretching the spine in a long axis plane, the disc is de-compressed and allowed to heal and move away from bulging state. This therapy also helps reduce inflammation due to “pumping” effect of the table on the tissues surrounding the injury.

Car Accidents + ICBC

Murray Chiropractic accepts all ICBC claims. According to the B.C. Chiropractic Association, car accidents are one of the most common causes of spine and spine related conditions. Injuries from a collision often take longer to treat than other types of injuries. Even low speed crashes have the potential to cause significant damage to your back and neck.  These type of injuries are really no different from sports injuries. The mechanism of injury may be different, but the treatment and rehabilitation follow exactly the same principles. Your chiropractic doctor has the skills to assess and treat these types of injuries. In most cases, ICBC customers pay little or no money to receive care for their crash injuries. You don’t need to seek pre-approval either; no referral is needed. Simply visit our office as soon as you feel symptoms and advise us that you were involved in a car accident.
